Delhi Township declares racism a public health crisis

The Delhi Township Board of Trustees recently passed a resolution declaring racism a public health crisis. With the resolution, which passed unanimously, the Township Board is recommitting itself to improving the quality of life and health outcomes for all Township residents.

We take great pride in being a diverse community and realize it is one of the key components that make Delhi Township a great place to live, work and raise a family. For far too long, Black people and communities of color have been subjected to systemic racism and bias, resulting in a myriad of health disparities that have been magnified during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Passing this resolution is a positive first step toward addressing this issue and improving the quality of life and health outcomes for all Township residents.

The resolution includes definitions of racism, systemic racism and examples of how racism and conscious and unconscious bias have caused racial discrimination in the criminal justice system, voter suppression, education, transportation, healthy food access and more.
