Fire/Life Safety Checklist

The Delhi Township Fire Department would
like to assist you and your family in creating and maintaining a safe home
environment. While all of the following questions may not apply to you, an
unchecked box may represent a potential hazard in your home. If you are
able to check all of the boxes, we commend you for your fire and life safety
efforts.

Pot handles are always turned toward the center of the stove when cooking |

Pot holders, towels and other combustibles are kept away from the stove |

The oven and stove are kept clean |

Cooking food is NEVER left unattended |
Electrical
 |
Only UL approved appliances are used |
 |
Outlets are NEVER overloaded |
 |
Multi-plug adapters (strip plugs) are
used only if they have circuit breakers |

We do not experience any flickering
lights or tripped circuit breakers |
 |
Cords to appliances are not frayed and
have all prongs in place |
 |
Safety caps cover open outlets if there
are small children in the home |
Smoking
 |
Matches and lighters are kept out of the
reach of children at all times |

Ashtrays are NEVER emptied until all
ashes are cool |

Trashcans and furniture are checked for
smoldering cigarettes before bedtime |
 |
No one smokes in bed or when drowsy |
Smoke Detectors
 |
There is a smoke detector on every level
and outside every sleeping room |
 |
All smoke detectors are checked monthly |
 |
Batteries are changed twice per year
(change your clock/change your battery) |
 |
Any detectors over ten years old are
replaced |

Every family member knows how to dial
9-1-1 in an emergency |

Any firearms are stored in a secure
location our of the reach of children |
