Cooking food is NEVER left unattended

Only UL approved appliances are used

Outlets are NEVER overloaded

Multi-plug adapters (strip plugs) are used only if they have circuit breakers

We do not experience any flickering lights or tripped circuit breakers

Cords to appliances are not frayed and have all prongs in place

Safety caps cover open outlets if there are small children in the home

Matches and lighters are kept out of the reach of children at all times

Ashtrays are NEVER emptied until all ashes are cool

Trashcans and furniture are checked for smoldering cigarettes before bedtime

No one smokes in bed or when drowsy

There is a smoke detector on every level and outside every sleeping room

All smoke detectors are checked monthly

Batteries are changed twice per year (change your clock/change your battery)

Any detectors over ten years old are replaced

Every family member knows how to dial 9-1-1 in an emergency

Any firearms are stored in a secure location our of the reach of children

There are 2 clear exits out of each room in the house

Our family has developed and practices a home escape plan
